Exiled to Motown began as a series of oral histories conducted by the Detroit JACL History Project Committee. Conducted between 2003 and 2015, these extensive oral histories offer an intimate glimpse into the many facets of Japanese American life in Detroit and beyond–including family stories about life in the camps, the process of resettlement, and raising a family after World War II.
The book is approximately 300 pages and includes a number of large-print black and white photos.

Exiled to Motown was first self-published in 2015. As of March 2024, the book is now available via the University of Washington Press. Click here to purchase your copy!
